Description:

The Fulbright English Teaching Assistant Program (ETA), in collaboration with the Ministry of Education  and the Colombian government’s Institute for Study Abroad, ICETEX, offers awards for the 2017-2018 academic year in Colombia. The Fulbright ETA Program aims to strengthen English language instruction at Colombian educational institutions by establishing the presence of native speakers. At the same time, U.S. participants will gain from intensive cross-cultural interaction and international educational and/or research opportunities provided at the host institution.

The grantee will be assigned to a specific university based on the candidate’s academic profile and the specific needs of the host institution. ETAs will be assigned as language-learning assistants for up to 30 hours per week, responsibilities may include giving presentations on different topics related to the United States, preparing classroom activities, and/or encouraging students to communicate in English.

Grantees are required to engage in a social project related to their personal, career, and/or educational interests. They should keep in mind that these activities should be flexible with respect to geographic location. Grantees may also further interact with the university's academic community by auditing course of their interest.

Requirements for English Teaching Assistant

  • Hold a B.S. or B.A. degree. Candidates with degrees in English, Spanish, education, or TEFL/applied linguistics with some experience teaching or tutoring are highly desired.
  • Proficient spoken and written Spanish.
  • Must be in Colombia during the academic year, from the last week of July to May 31.
  • Must attend the orientation and enrichment seminars.
  • Must be a U.S citizen (Dual U.S.-Colombian citizens are ineligible)
